Known as ‘The New Bern Lily’ it is Craven County Master Gardeners’ signature bulb and can be found every year on the fall bulb sale. The long-lived flowers that bloom in late summer to fall were brought from Japan to New Bern by Captain William Willis Roberts as a gift to his wife Elizabeth. Flower spikes reach 18 in. in height and love well-drained soil and partial shade. They may take up to a year or two to establish. These wonderful coral red flowers are a welcome addition to any garden and often form colonies over the years.
