Hedychium densiflorum, Ginger Lily is  a 3-foot tall compact Ginger Lily common in tropical Asia but quite hardy in our area as well. Its flower stalk emerges in late summer. Unlike other Hedychium species, the densely-packed orange to golden yellow flowers open from the tip downward. They are deliciously fragrant and attractive to bees and butterflies but not deer. Grow in full sun to light shade in moist soil. A single stalk loaded with flowers in a tall vase makes a striking presentation.
